“Gone Fishing.”

Just outside of Amarillo, Robert Smithson created the idea for a sculpture called the Amarillo Ramp. It used to sit in a man-made lake, but the lake has since dried up. A dam broke and allowed the water to escape. During the scouting expedition for the site, Smithson’s aircraft crashed, killing Smithson. It’s interesting to think that not 40 years ago, this area was a lake. Landscapes change, yet artifacts remain.
